I bought this for my grand-niece, thinking it would be a cutesy toy for a little girl. And it’s not that a little girl wouldn’t love it, but it’s far more lovely and better made than anything you’d normally buy for a child. I couldn’t tell from the description and photos what fabric was used and so assumed it would be cotton or synthetic of some sort, maybe a cotton sateen. But it is, in fact, what it should be, ballet pink satin, inside and out. The toe is carefully gathered onto the sole, and—hard as it is to believe—I do think that the sole is actually leather (or at least my nose thinks it is), but if not, it’s a very close facsimile. All the stitching is neat and tight, and the inset zipper panel is a clever design solution that preserves the integrity of the slipper form. It’s a good size for an adult to use for small cosmetics (you can see some of my Guerlain pretties inside) and would be huge for a child. The gold-tone circle tag as zipper pull could be engraved with an initial to make this truly a special gift. It would have been so easy to make a cheap, shoddy version of a ballet slipper bag, since many would buy it for the concept alone, rather than the execution. But in this case, the execution is just as lovely as the idea. I’m impressed!
